3rd night of Corporate Charity Cricket - Barclays Capital qualify for the final!

Monday 17th November

Another evening of quality cricket; not too many nail-biters; but some superb cricket ( not only the Akram twins ! )

Barclays Capital have qualified for the finals on Dec 1st with 6 wins out of 6 ; the rest is up for grabs, the other two places could go to any of 4 sides.

Match 1 Pitch 1

Barclays Capital v Catch 22

High Finance v Recruitment

High Finance, on this occasion proving too strong. 126 for 3 Both the Akrams retired and Clargo and Sarohia got to 20+ .  Catch 22 did well to get to 71 all out.

Match 1 Pitch 2

Five TV v  BDO Stoy Hayward

Commercial TV v Accounting Giants

Money talks again ( has no-one told the economy ? )

Five TV stumbled to 58 all out, with skipper Jason Talley being run out without facing a ball !  BDO knocked them off for the loss of 2 wickets 61 for 2 Steve L getting a quality 19 and Ed 18.

Match 2 Pitch 1

BDO v Catch 22

Further evidence that there is nought wrong with our financial institutions

BDO chalked up 109 for 5 with Dan an excellent 45 not out ; Catch 22 had a go and reached 85 all out with Nick not out 35

Match 2 Pitch 2

Barclays Capital v SJBerwin

I could repeat myself.

Barclays Capital 92 for 6  SJBerwins keeper, Weinberg, thought he had worked out how to play these lads, Afran Akram, having taken 20 runs of the previous over, was floored by a Weinberg run-out attempt, right on the end of the nose; the blood on show proved that he was actually human after all ! Recovered fine, with no hard feelings.  Despite 92 being their lowest total of the night, they still defeated SJB who reached  72 for 2 ( suggesting their run ratio may be becoming important !!)  ; nice 25 not out from Toby Dean.

Match 3 Pitch 1

Catch 22 v SJ Berwins

No finance involved here; Legal Eagles trouncing Employment

Catch 22 a mere 55 for 6 and SJB a comfortable 58 for 1 with Barri Mendlesohn 28 not out ( was put down three times !)

Match 3 Pitch 2

Barclays v Five TV

Banking recession ?  What recession ?

BC actually reached 120 for 0 !! Before relaxing to 143 for 2. Akram, Pullen, Akram and Clargo retired and the two batsmen to lose their wickets were Santosh and Vivek !!

Five , despite a valiant 24 from Wilson reached 69 all out.

Match 4 Pitch 1

Five TV v SJBerwins

Important for SJBerwin that they won. And, boy did they cut it fine ……..

Five TV a meagre 69 for 6 ;  Toby Dean saw SJB home, scratching the last 15 runs together all on his won ; 70 for 5 ………..

Match 4 Pitch 2

High Finance had to win this one

Barclays v BDO

BC surpassed all records here 151 for 5 !! Think Arfan Akram top scored for the tournament with 55 not out

BDO reaching a creditable 80 for 6

All done by 22.00 hrs

Particular thanks to the umpires for staying and standing for so long, thanks John and Charlie …

NB Five TV being technically above EFG , despite a poorer runs to wickets ratio, because there are only two teams on 4 points and Five won the head to head.

BC qualify for the finals, SJBerwin looking strong; although EFG and Sporting Index could both leap-frog them by winning their last three games; EFG are playing Sporting Index, though.

This one could be a very tight call !! Linklaters play both Sporting Index and EFG next week and by winning all of their remaining fixtures, they could also qualify; so all to play for, as always.

Date in your diary as well, the following Monday for the finals night.

And, at this stage, thanks to BDO who bow out, having had the misfortune to play Barclays Capital twice, which they did graciously ( and with some success, 32 for 4 for a moment …!)
