Annual Corporate Charity Cricket (CCC) - First night results!

First night of CCC 2008

10 teams entered; all randomly drawn to play 6 of the ten teams, 2 points for a win, one for a tie when scores and wickets are equal, runs scored divided by wickets lost deciding any final positions, with the top 3 teams to play on 1st Dec in a round robin evening to include a Lords Taverners team generally equipped with stars of stage and screen and sporting fields to both entertain and win !!

1st night was a terrific night ; 5 teams , 8 games, good fun , good level, intriguing results.

Lets go...

Match 1 Pitch 1

Five TV v Fishburns

Commercial Television v Solicitors

5 TV scored 125 for 6 with the evergreen skipper,  Jason Talley scoring 36.

Fishburns in reply, despite some excellent running between Wilson and Sheldon fell short through some superb bowling from Robinson and ended on 114 for 3 wickets ( slightly strange being so close with so few wickets down, but what the hell ……………. )

Match 1 Pitch 2

Catch 22 v EFG

Recruiters v Private Bankers

Catch 22 scored an excellent 117 for the loss of only 2 wickets ( Henry and Jim in the hutch on 25 plus ) despite some excellent bowling from Rob, tall left arm seam, and a superb catch caught blind by Andrew Imlay of his own bowling ( probably wouldn’t have bothered if anyone else had bowled ). Catch 22 thought they had enough ……..

But wow did EFG bat better than they bowled and down went Catch 22 with Rich making 43 not out and 118 for 3 off 9 overs excellent.

Match 2 Pitch 2

EFG v 5TV

Private Banking v Commercial TV

EFG batted first and reached 69 all out ( there’s a joke there somewhere ) Robinson taking 2 wickets in first over and last 3 wickets falling for 26 runs.

Five reached 70 for the loss of 2 wickets. Great straight six by Wilson.

Match 2 Pitch 1

Fishburns v Sporting Index

Solicitors v Betting Magnates

Fishburns all out for 62

Sporting Index reduced to 22 for 4 scrapped through with 63 for 5 ; the elderly gent who really only wanted to get to the bar, who remains nameless but deserves more credit than he was given by bowling superb controlled donkey drops combined with a fair amount of tweaking to very nearly embarrass last year finalists; but no ………. Class shows through in the end.

Match 3 Pitch 1

EFG v Fishburns

EFG reached a staggering 152 for the loss of a mere 3 wickets ( Richard Kimber 46, Justin 32, others must have got to 25 ………. )

Fishburns did really well in response, John Downes getting the nights highest score of 48 not out ! Although were seen off by some great leg-spin by Tom and a great caught and bowled by Justin off the ceiling ! 92 for 4.

Match 3 Pitch 2

Catch 22 v Sporting Index

An old rivalry this; but went the normal way

Catch 22 batted first and 3 direct hits later were reduced to 58 all out, mainly due to Nick Marsden’s 35 some superb bowling from Campbell and Patrick did the damage and a fantastic catch by Keenan to dismiss Nick.

SI reached the required 60 for the loss of 2 wickets despite great catches by Henry and Nigel .

Match 4  Pitch 1

Catch 22 v Fishburns

Everything came good suddenly for Catch 22 reducing  Fishburns to 33 all out , starting with  a Jim Gatting maiden they never looked back, it was just like they had Don back !!

Jim opened and was denied the strike until the last 3 balls when 6,6,4 won the game 34 for 2.

Match 4 Pitch 2

Sporting Index v Five TV

This was billed as the match of the Night and what a result. SI got to 111 for 3 ( Harry and Campbell getting to 25 )  Great catching by Robinson and Lloyd help restrict the score with the former catching one he deflected for 6 !

Five got all the way to 13 in response, though ……… Opening Bowlers both being unplayable again and claiming 3 wickets each

A terrific evening; Sporting Index quickly asserting themselves, as is now a tradition ( Pair of opening bowlers in the Lille and Thompson mould !) ; Five TV and new boys EFG in the mix ; Catch 22 and Fishburns battered but not bruised , both gave better accounts of themselves than the statistics suggest. Well played everyone.

As normal superb facilities and quality umpiring and scoring.
