Footballer's BBC pay cheque seized by HMRC
Scottish footballer Maurice Mo Johnston will see a pay cheque from the BBC handed over to the taxman in two weeks' time, unless he appeals a decision made yesterday by Glasgow Sheriff Court.
A Scottish court has granted HMRC the right to seize US$1794.80 owed by the BBC to Johnston, who owes the Revenue £449,692.89 in back taxes.
The sum will be paid over to HMRC after 14 days unless Johnston appeals.
The former football star was not present to hear the decision. His last known address was in Kansas USA, but the court heard that he is currently believed to be in New Jersey USA.
The Revenue declined to comment on the case, besides confirming that: "HMRC have an outstanding debt from a Maurice Thomas Johnston"
